  • I grew up on Lakeland Ave and spent much of my childhood days fishing off the dock at my parents' home on Long Pond. There are some really excellent fish there and they do get quite big.

Long Pond (south Yarmouth) Description

Long Pond in Yarmouth is a 57 acre natural kettlehole pond with an average depth of 14 feet and a maximum depth of 30 feet. Transparency is good, extending to 15 feet. Aquatic vegetation is common, but limited primarily to the southern end and scattered locations near the shoreline. The bottom is composed of rubble, gravel and sand. The pond is fed by swamps and cranberry bogs and drains to the Parker River. The 2.3 miles of shoreline is heavily developed with residential homes and town beaches. Long Pond in Yarmouth is located just north of Route 28 and west of the Bass River. There are several access points provided by the town of Yarmouth, most of which are suitable only for shoreline fishing, but a paved boat ramp located at the end of Davis Road on the southwestern shore is suitable for launching cartop boats and canoes. There is a three horsepower limit on outboard engines enforced by the Town of Yarmouth. Fish Populations: yellow perch, pumpkinseed sunfish, brown bullhead, chain pickerel, largemouth bass, alewife and American eel. White perch, golden shiners, rainbow trout, brown trout and brook trout.

Long Pond in Yarmouth is annually stocked in the spring with a mix of rainbow trout, brown trout and brook trout. It is primarily a spring put-and-take fishery with limited holdover potential. In addition to stocked trout in the spring, this pond also offers a good fishery for largemouth bass and yellow perch. There is always the possibility of taking a good pickerel as well. A good forage base is provided by sea-run alewives which ascend the Parker River to Seine Pond and from there to Long Pond. The southern half of the pond is particularly good for bass fishing in April and May.
