I grew up bass fishing in Georgia and only began fishing in Massachusetts in 2014. I'm always excited to explore new bodies of water and locations, freshwater and saltwater.

I got out early on a sunny August morning and landed my best fish of the year on my second cast! Caught this largemouth on a Super Spook Jr. at 7:20am, 20" long chunk and estimated 5 pounder (I lost my scale on my last trip, unfortunately).
The rest of the morning, I caught 3 more largemouth under 2 pounds and a tiny smallmouth. I ended the morning working a double blade spinnerbait just above a submerged weed bed and had some good action with this pattern. Certainly a memorable August morning!

Went bank fishing on the Charles River 7:30pm last Thursday and the topwater bite was on, even with the ubiquitous boat traffic and rowers in the area.

I noticed a consistent, shallow weed line about 15 feet from shore and thought this along with the calm conditions would be an ideal setting for frog fishing. Sure enough, I caught my best largemouth this year on my first cast – an estimated 3 pounder. In the next hour, I caught 4 other largemouth, including 2 others over 2 pounds, and had about 6-7 additional blow ups and misses.

I'm still waiting for that 5 or 6 pounder to strike. Good chance it could happen on a topwater frog!

Went to the river at the crack of dawn Saturday morning and stayed until about 9:30am. The conditions were perfect and the topwater bite was hot! I mostly threw a pop-R for the first 1 and 1/2 hours and switched over to green pumpkin and watermelon candy plastic worms.

The herring were still very active, splashing on the surface in swarms. I caught a couple with a gold Kastmaster and landed a small white perch, too. I also saw a 5-6 pound carp casually cruise by and wish I had some corn or bread on me!

All in all, I caught 6 largemouth (the biggest about 2.5 pounds), 1 smallmouth, a couple herring and a white perch. Last week I caught a surprise schoolie striper at the same location.

A very productive spot for many species and a great morning!
